Have. Want. or Covet?

HAVE!

Just in time for my upcoming 30th birthday in October - this vintage 1963 Vogue magazine's cover article 'The Woman of 30' Clothes And Beauty For The Fascinating Thirties has taught me how to be the best dressed little lady during this 'fascinating' time in my life.

I quickly snatched up this retro gold at a recent yard sale - And now you can HAVE it too!

The fab mag is for sale through my eBay store - hurry, auction ends Jun 19, 2011.

Have. Want. or Covet?

Totally WANT!!!

I swear this is what the inside of my 'Mad Men, Mid Century Modern' crazed mind looks like.

Found this gem of a shop at the inside antique stores at the Golden Nugget Antique Market. As soon as I saw the shimmering glow of that disco ball alongside all those retro lamps, well, it was love at first sight. Gimme!

The Golden Nugget! What happens in Lambertville, stays in Lambertville.

The last time I was at The Golden Nugget was when my parents took me and my sister on a "family" vacation to Las Vegas. I was 11 years old. Really, dad?!

The Golden Nugget Antique Market in Lambertville, NJ was a bit more tame than Vegas, but certainly didn't disappoint!

Despite the less than stellar weather, hundreds of sellers were ready to go!

I snagged some great deals on Vintage Movie Posters ($10 each), a ghostly daguerreotype with original antique case circa 1850s ($23), and a Japanese Yamatoku Porcelain Famille Noir Plate circa 1920s ($9!).

The daguerreotype was mostly a last minute impulse buy - the impulse being the cute guy with the great smile selling the photograph. I lost all ability to haggle on the price (he originally asked $25, I eagerly settled on $23). Oops.

Next Stop: The Stormville Airport Antique Show & Flea Market, Saturday May 28th.

Rain or Shine! Probably rain at the rate we're going. Hmmph.

April Showers Bring May...Oh, Wait...

...it's still raining.

So much for my plan to visit the Golden Nugget Antique Market this weekend. If the sun decides to return to the Tri-State area next weekend, I'll give it another go.

Of course, like any good worker bee, I used my new found time wisely and FINALLY got my eBay store up and running!

PS: HTML is hard. I wish I could earn a living having weekly yard sales, where I just set up a cute little table with a red gingham print cloth and offer people lemonade as they peruse my antique treasures. But alas, the World Wide Web gets a bit more traffic than my Brooklyn stoop. eBay wins.

So, without further ado (drumroll, please) here it is - Finchley Fine Art & Antiques.

If you're an eBayer, be sure to add my store to your favorites! I'll be posting new items on a weekly basis. Hopefully you'll see something you'll want to buy (or covet).

Until next time, mes petits choux. À bientôt

Auction Results - Dominican Sisters of Hope Collection

Alas mes petits choux, divine intervention was not on my side at yesterday's auction.

Bidding went waaaay over my affordability and expectations. Within the first 5 minutes, I knew I'd be going home empty handed - but I stuck around regardless to gawk in wide-eyed disbelief at the hammer prices AND to watch the adorable nuns do their best Vanna White impressions. (For those who may not be aware, in 1960 the Sisters of Saint Dominic founded Mount Saint Mary College, where the auction was held).

Just to give you a little taste of the wild bidding that took place  - A once decapitated, and crudely repaired, Chinese blanc de chine figurine fetched over $1,100 (before the 15% buyer's premium). Whaat!?

Not to fret, I did purchase a chicken salad sandwich from the food cart. And ate it on a bench facing this view...

All in all, a fun day and happy to know that these high prices went to such a great cause! Everyone wins - well, except for me. I won nothing. ; )

Auction Tomorrow - Hudson Valley, NY

Saturday afternoon, I'll be heading to Newburgh, New York to check out the spoils of the Dominican Sisters of Hope, hosted by Mark Vail Auctions.

Pretty heavy on the Religious Icons, but I see some hidden potential in the lots.

Check out the abundance.

I've got my eye on Royal Doulton Figurines and Antique Wood Santos (Saint) Figures...wish me luck!

All lovely things fit into three neat little packages, er, categories.

Throughout this blog, I will continually feature fine art, antiques and collectibles that will fall into one of three categories: Have. Want. or Covet.

Have: Affordable works of art I have purchased on my buying trips. The majority of which will be up for grabs on my eBay and Etsy sites (more on that later...).

Want: Works of art that I am on the hunt to find! If there's a gap in my personal collection or online store inventory, I'll shout it out into the blogosphere and hope that someone, somewhere out there will save this damsel in distress.

Covet: Works of Art I dream about owning. le sigh.

For instance, if we were talking about, say, this handcoloured engraving 'Marie-Antoinette de Lorraine - d'Autriche, Reine de France' , published Paris, 1828, you might think to yourself - 'surely, it would be logged in "Covet"'. Oh, but you would be wrong mes petits choux. I HAVE it on my bedroom wall.
